‘Go F**k Yourself’, Elon Musk Just Told Advertisers

Elon Musk claims that if he continues to support an antisemitic tweet, advertisers would leave X and the platform that was once known as Twitter will “die.” He also had a straightforward message for those businesses, which include IBM, Disney, and Apple: “Go f**k yourself.”

Speaking on Wednesday night at the New York Times DealBook Summit, Musk advised advertisers who had reservations about Musk’s behavior to discontinue using the platform, which has always relied on ad income, by cutting back on their expenditure. Musk responded, “Don’t advertise,” to a query regarding X’s recent issues. “If someone tries to use advertising as a form of blackmail on me? Use money as a form of blackmail? F**k yourself, please. F**k yourself, please. Is that understood correctly? If you’re in the audience, hello, Bob. I feel that way; please don’t promote it.

In reaction to Musk’s recent activities, several corporations have halted their X advertising this month, including Disney CEO Bob Iger, to whom Musk was alluding. Iger declined to say when asked if his business would start running ads on X during his speech at the New York Times event earlier in the day. Iger stated, “We felt that by him taking the position he did, the association with that position, and Elon Musk and X, was not a positive one for us.”

Musk most likely needs Iger’s advertising budget more than Disney does X. The powerhouse of global theme parks and entertainment is estimated to be worth close to $170 billion. In October of this year, X employees received stock grants at a valuation of $45 per share, valuing the company at $19 billion—less than half of what Musk spent for the platform a year ago. Musk had taken over Twitter in 2022 and had hidden the company’s financials by taking it private.

On November 15, user @breakingbaht commented that Jewish communities have been “pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against Whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them.” This statement ignited X’s advertising problem. Musk publicly retorted, “You have spoken the actual truth,” a statement that was interpreted by many as endorsing the right-wing extremist conspiracy theory known as the “great replacement.”
