After seven weeks of fighting, the Israel-Hamas war agreed to a four-day cease-fire in Gaza.
In addition to assistance trucks entering Gaza, 39 Palestinian inmates detained in Israeli jails and 13 captives in Gaza are scheduled for release in the next several hours.
Before the UN-mediated truce begins, the Gaza Strip is subjected to a night of heightened bombardment from “air, land, and sea,” according to reports.
According to Wafa news agency, another Palestinian journalist, Amal Zuhd, and family members were slain in Gaza City.
Over 220 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of the war as a result of Israeli military operations that continue throughout the night in the occupied West Bank.
Since October 7, around 14,800 Palestinians have died in Gaza. Approximately 1,200 people have officially died as a result of Hamas strikes in Israel.
List of Palestinians scheduled for release received by PA
The Palestinian Authority has received a list containing the names of 39 Palestinians who are due to be released today, according to Al Jazeera.
Reporting from Nablus in the occupied West Bank, Zein Basravi of Al Jazeera added, “We are also hearing that that list may not be the final.”
“We are positive that no Palestinian family has received word as of yet regarding whether or not their loved one will be included in that list of 39 names.”
What is likely to occur today?
- The first batch of Israeli detainees, consisting of 13 women and children, will be released around 4 p.m. local time (14:00 GMT).
- They will be accompanied by the Red Cross to the border crossing at Rafah, where they will be turned over to the Israeli soldiers to start the identification process.
- The detainees will be brought to Tel Aviv hospitals for medical and psychological examinations.
- As part of the deal, 39 Palestinian detainees will also be freed from Israeli prisons on the first day.
- They will be transferred from two Israeli jails located southeast of Haifa: Damon and Megiddo.
- After that, they will be driven to the Ofer jail, which is located in the occupied West Bank south of Ramallah. From there, they will be given to their relatives at a nearby crossing.
- In the hours to follow, much-needed humanitarian aid is also anticipated to get into Gaza from Egypt.
- 200 relief trucks and more fuel trucks, according to Hamas, will arrive in Gaza every day.
